Purpose

BriefBerlin makes Berlin’s news accessible to people learning German. We aim to preserve the facts, context, and significance of a story while presenting it in language that is easier to follow. Our coverage is focused on Berlin, with occasional stories of broader German relevance.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made in the interests of readers. BriefBerlin LLC is independently owned and privately funded by its founder. The publication has no parent company, sponsors, advertisers, grant providers, or outside investors directing its coverage.

Any future commercial relationship that could reasonably create a conflict of interest will be disclosed. Advertising or sponsored material, if introduced, will be clearly distinguished from editorial content.

Selecting and Verifying Stories

Authors select source material based on relevance, public interest, timeliness, and usefulness to readers. During review, the author checks:

  • factual accuracy against the source material;
  • faithful representation of the source and its context;
  • headline accuracy;
  • German-language quality;
  • suitability and clarity for language learners; and
  • legal, safety, and harm-related concerns.

Source materials used in production are not currently included in public article metadata or published as source lists. They are retained within the private editorial workflow for verification. BriefBerlin does not present adapted reporting as firsthand eyewitness reporting or claim original reporting where none was conducted.

Authorship and Accountability

Every article must have a named human author. The author is responsible for the editorial focus, review, final wording, and decision to publish. Bylines link to author pages that describe the author’s role and relevant background.

BriefBerlin uses an author-led, technology-assisted production process. The details are explained in our Editorial Process.

Accuracy and Corrections

We correct substantive errors transparently while preserving the original publication date. Readers can report a possible error to info@briefberlin.de. See our Corrections Policy for the review and disclosure process.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors must not allow personal, financial, political, or commercial interests to distort coverage. A relevant conflict that cannot be avoided must be disclosed to readers. BriefBerlin does not accept payment in exchange for favorable editorial treatment.
