The new election in Berlin changes the election map of the city. The election map shows strong parties in each district. The result looks different in many districts, but not completely new. Especially important is the difference between the center and the outskirts.
The center means the inner districts with many houses. The outskirts means districts farther outside, for example at the edge of town. Old differences between East and West also stay visible. In the past there was an eastern part and a western part in Berlin. This still sometimes matters in elections.
In many inner districts, the party Die Linke won. Die Linke is a political party in Germany. There it often got more votes than the Greens. The Greens are also a party and were strong there before. That is why the balance of power is changing in these districts.
But Die Linke is not only strong in the center. Its success also reaches farther to the west and east. In the west, it gets votes in parts of Charlottenburg and Spandau. In the east, it is strong in the north of Treptow-Köpenick.
In the end, the election map shows two important things. Many people vote differently today, but history stays important.
